Born in 1997 out of the collaboration between the Umbria Film Festival Association, the Municipality of Montone (PG) and Riverside Studios in London, the UMBRIA FILM FESTIVAL has set itself from the beginning as a moment of sharing and meeting through cinema.
The festival takes place every year during the second week of July.
All screenings are free of charge and take place in the Piazza, a meeting and discussion place par excellence for everyone: guests, audience and participants. The audience is varied and an integral part of the festival, just as guests and participants become an integral part of the audience in Montone.
The historical re-enactment of the entry into Montone of Carlo Fortebraccio, son of Braccio, who brings to the town the relic of the Holy Thorn, donated to him by the Venetians in gratitude for his service in defence of the town, takes place in mid-August.
The three districts of Montone, Borgo, Monte and Verziere, challenge each other, reproducing scenes of medieval life and competing in archery, to win the palio and the Castellana: Margherita Malatesta of Rimini, wife of Count Carlo, who governed the town of Montone in his absence.
